| the ride at all times. Just a quick thanks to TT.net, esp nixit. Today on my way home from work I almost wrecked my car. I was coming around a blind corner on the freeway (Only in STL will you have a blind corner on a freeway) I was going about 40mph around this bend when I saw the cars directly in front of me swerve and continue on. They were trying to avoid what looked like a big red firehose. So of course I slow down a bit and swerve as well. As I was passing this object, I stopped focusing on the traffic ahead of me and was looking in my side view mirror to see what it was.... When I finally looked up, all the cars in front of me were at a dead stop. The guy that had dropped the item decided to stop right on the freeway causing everybody to brake. Had I been actually looking at the road, I would have been prepared for this, but of course, I wasn't. I was too busy looking at what I had just avoided. So, there I am, going about 30mph at this point closing in fast on the dead stopped car in front of me. Naturally I threw it into first, let out the clutch and SLAMMED on the brakes. My ABS activates... my car comes to a grinding halt.... I missed plowing into the guy in front of me by less then an inch. I was so close, I could see his eyes in terror in his rear view mirror. If I would have had stock breaks, I don't think I would have stood a chance. When I was doing all my upgrading, I really wanted to get stoptechs, but I couldn't afford them at the time so I decided to just keep my stock brakes and upgrade at a later date. Well, after reading what people on TT.net and specifically nixit had said about stock brakes and how they actually can be very effective with some work, I decided to go that route. Luckily I did, otherwise I think my car would have slammed that guys rear-end tonight. I feel pretty stupid, I should have known better to not take my eyes off the road. Anyway, at least I know my car can stop pretty damn fast when needed. So, again, thanks TT.net!
